Do universities see all my PTE attempts, or just the one I send?

Just the one you send. Each PTE sitting generates its own separate score report, and you choose which report goes to which institution — a university receives that report, not a history of every time you've taken the test. Pearson retains your testing record internally, but it isn't attached to the report you select or displayed to admissions staff alongside it.

How reports are scoped

Test, report, send: each is tied to one sitting. In myPTE you pick a specific report and choose which institutions receive it. Because sending is free and unlimited, you can simply send your best report everywhere and never send the weaker ones at all. A 58 from eight months ago doesn't appear as a footnote on a report showing the score you actually need.

Where your history can still come up

Some institutions and some immigration applications ask you to declare previous English test attempts on their own forms. If you're asked, answer honestly — Pearson holds the record and can be asked to verify, and a false declaration is a far worse problem than a low earlier score.

Worth saying plainly: admissions offices are not scoring you on how many attempts it took. They check whether the report in front of them meets the threshold. Multiple sittings are completely ordinary.

The auto-send caveat for Australia and New Zealand

If you opted in at booking to have your scores sent automatically to Australia's DHA or Immigration New Zealand, that auto-send applies to every test you booked with the option selected — not only your best one. A case officer may therefore have more than one result on file.

This is not a problem in itself; they assess against the requirement. But it does mean you have less control there than you do with universities, so check what you selected on each booking if it matters to you.

UKVI and IRCC

For UK visa applications, the process Pearson publishes covers the PTE Academic UKVI test, whose score report carries a SELT unique reference number. For Canadian immigration, it covers PTE Core, whose report carries an IRCC unique reference number. In either case you enter that number on the application form rather than sending anything. A standard PTE Academic report is shared the normal way, from myPTE or by giving the body your Score Report Code. That number is tied to that one sitting, so the authority verifies that sitting. Confirm the exact current process with the official Pearson and immigration guidance, as these requirements change.

The practical takeaway

Don't book a retake to "clean up" your record — there's nothing to clean up. Retake only if your current best report doesn't meet the requirement you're applying against, and check that requirement in the institution's own published wording rather than a forum summary of it.
